During the Korean War censorship was implemented by the military. It failed to control press coverage most of the time because it was limited to journalist on Korea and Japan. Also, reporters in the United States were not intimidated by military forces. The presence of censorship created a tension among press and military because clear reporting directives were nonexistent. Despite the conflict, everyone did agree that they should not reveal liable information that threaten personnel or endanger operations. On January 9, the US Eighth Army Headquarters  announced full wartime censorship on news coverage and threatened to court-martial any news reporter who did not have authorization to release content.
