Vanessa Mayorga Reflection

The History Game was one of my favorite projects. I have always wanted to learn how to created my own website to blog on. I also could not have been apart of a better team. We all helped and contributed equally with everything and there is no doubt that we were a great team and could count on each other. I created my own personal biography as well as the information on the Korean War. Noah and I contributed to the Game; from creating the actual questions to creating the link and the summary. I learned so much from each war and think this was a great and effective way to research journalism amongst each Era.

Crossword Puzzle

The Crossword Puzzle contains a combination of questions based on all the information from the History Posts. Each war has a distinctive quality that was used as answers in the game. There are 2 questions containing material from each war. The more information that you know on our website the easier the questions will be. Evidently the objective of the game is to get them all correct but if needed there is a Study Guide attached.

Propaganda during the Korean War

Propaganda was very popular during the Korean war. They were created with very poor quality and dropped by aircraft. The leaflets were directed to the enemy while others had words of encouragement towards UN troops. Details and illustrations concerning the leaflets were often times expressing the brutality of the enemies actions. KW

“Many young North Korean men are dying needlessly every day due to ever-increasing hardships. At the same time they are becoming the slaves of the Chinese Communists.”

Censorship on the Korean War

During the Korean War censorship was implemented by the military. It failed to control press coverage most of the time because it was limited to journalist on Korea and Japan. Also, reporters in the United States were not intimidated by military forces. The presence of censorship created a tension among press and military because clear reporting directives were nonexistent. Despite the conflict, everyone did agree that they should not reveal liable information that threaten personnel or endanger operations. On January 9, the US Eighth Army Headquarters  announced full wartime censorship on news coverage and threatened to court-martial any news reporter who did not have authorization to release content.

Television and the Korean War

The Korean War was not a television war. Video coverage toward information and details on the war steadily improved following the armistice agreement enacted on July 27, 1953. Leading television stations such as CBS and NBC were well equipped to be ready to report the war through radio if needed, in case television was not sophistaicated enough to report the Korean hostilities. Nonetheless, reporters did everything to get the news to people. Live coverage on sessions of the United Nations were reported by New York stations. The Pentagon would occasionally release a list of prisoner names held in North Korea which was broadcasted through network radio, as well as four television networks who televised moving tapes on which names were written.
